Tenants: Our top 5 tips for cold weather protection

How to prepare your property for cold weather

Boilers and Heating:
If you are leaving your home unoccupied at any point make sure that the heating comes on low once or twice a day. This will ensure that everything comes back to life easily when you return. If you need help with the heating settings in your home give us a ring or send us an email - we would love to help and make sure that you stay warm.

Radiator Settings:
If the radiators in your home are fitted with a thermostat and you are leaving the property unoccupied at any point, better to set all of the radiators to low than some to max and some to zero. It is much cheaper and more energy efficient too!

Locate the Stop Cock:
In the unfortunate event that your pipes do freeze, make sure that you know where the stop cock is so that you can easily turn off the water system. Any build-up of pressure can cause internal flooding which is an awful thing to happen in the depths of winter. It may located in the kitchen under your sink. If you need help locating the stop cock we have this information on record - please contact us.

Give a friend a set of keys:
It is a always great idea to ask a friend who lives locally to hold a set of keys. If your are away you may need to ask them to pop in and check your home, or adjust the heating.

Hot Water Cylinders:
If your home is fitted with a hot water cylinder, rather than turn it off entirely if you are going away, adjust the thermostat and leave it on low. This will also help to stop pipes freezing and makes things easier on your return.

We are here to help - please contact us if you would like any more information or support.
