Shared Repairs:
Many of the properties that we manage are located in a shared tenement block where a number of owners are jointly responsible for shared repairs. Edinburgh's housing stock is of course not getting any younger, and when repairs do need carried out organising them can be quite complex.
I was however greatly encouraged when I went along to a seminar yesterday (Saturday 23rd March) organised by not for profit organisation "Under One Roof". The seminar included input from a number of organisations and covered all aspects od shared property maintenance and shared repairs. Significant guidance is available on the Under One Roof website.
I found the input from Edinburgh City Council - Shared Repair Service particulaly helpful. They have recently introduced a mechanism to collect payment from owners who will not engage, and ultimately pay the missing share if that is what it takes for essential repairs to progress. For a significant fee they will also organise repairs on behelf of joint owners, but only if all other routes have been shown to fail. Details are on their website.
